water pump parts interchangeable?

I have a OMC 400 stringer out drive, I got the drive in two pieces when I got the boat. It is missing most of the water pump. I can get an entire stringer 800 out drive for 200 bucks. Are the water pump parts interchangeable on these two drives?

Yes, they are interchangeable, but there is no telling what the condition is of the impeller on the used drive you can get for cheap. You can buy the entire water pump kit for about $50 online though: Boat Part Headquarters - Quality name brand aftermarket boat parts

Also, maybe you should post some pictures of your current parts so we can see what else might be missing.

As far as I know I have the water pump rebuild kit, I am missing the coupler housing and the shaft.

By coupler housing do you mean impeller housing? There is no telling if the water pump shaft from the used drive you will buy will have an intact and reusable shaft. Rule of thumb for the shaft is that if the splines show 20% or greater wear, replace the shaft. You can get it for about $80 online if you shop around.
