I have a 1984 60 h.p. johnson that i just replaced the lower unit. My question is the pipe that comes out of the water pump and that goes into the bottom of the power head has a small hole in it but it looks like a factory hole and not corrosion. Is that hole suppose to be there? Also when i ran it on the hose tonight it did not have very strong water pressure coming out of the pee hole. A friend told me it might get stronger once the motor was in the water due to back pressure. Its not a new water pump on the lower unit. Cant find the replacement at boat us or west marine, do i need to purchase it from a dealer? I would greatly appreciate any help on the situation.
Josh

Re: water pump pipe to the power head

Hi Coastie....yeah...factory hole. Vents the pump and does a little cooling in the exhaust housing.

Did ya try a wire up the pee hole? Sometimes they get a little plugged and don't pee real good. If it's a new pump assembly, should squirt out pretty well. Any Johnny/Rude dealer should have what ya' need. Not a real old motor so parts shouldn't be a problem.

Keep us posted.
