Anyone have any idea why omc paints the stainless water pump plate in the rebuild kit? seems this paint since it wears off anyway stands a good chance of obstructing flow through thermostat compartment.1995 70 hp evinrude. Also noticed when removed original pump that its plate was painted when installed at factory as I could see where it had wore off during operation.was wondering if paint on impeller side should be removed before installing.Older kits I've installed weren't painted.

Re: water pump plate

Hey OB,<br />That's a good question! I can only assume that it is for there own benefit. Maybe so they can keep track of which part goes with what(color coded). Just a guess, as I sure don't see the logic behind it. I don' think it will hurt anything being painted, unless a "Chunk" of paint came off at once! But it probably just slowly flakes off! Who knows with OMC!! I guess if it makes you feel better, remove it! I will in the future after this talk, just to be sure! See Ya,
