I slide the impeller down to flat spot on the drive shaft and then put the pin in and "try" to slide it the last 4" to the spot it needs to be. Is the a trick to this? I can get it in the impeller but I am afriad to force it the rest of the way down. Any tools to use. I have a habit of breaking things that require a lot of force. The older I get the wiser I get. Motor is a 1978 9.9.

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Water Pump question

That just takes a round pin if I recall Rick. Sure there ain't somethin' blocking the slot? Impeller should slide right down on if it's all lined up right.

Here's something to try.....take a dab of grease and put it on the flat spot where the key goes. This will hold the key in place as you slide the impeller down the shaft. Line up the slot in the impeller hub with the key, and it should slide right down.
