Maybe been standing long enough for the water to have separated. maybe not fully drained when last refilled but who knows. There's water getting in so it needs investigating It might just be because the seals on the plugs were reused.

the impeller and the impeller was melted at the ends and in the housing all the water pasages were cloged with dried rubber or plastic. what does tha mean?
Been run dry I should think. Needs a complete water pump kit.

While doing the water pump it might be sensible to renew the drive shaft seals. they are done then while they are accessible

I hope bits of pump impeller have not gone into the cooling system where they'll cause trouble later

Water in lower unit means you have a leaking seal somewhere. May just be a bad or missing gasket/seal on the drain screw or vent screw. You should replace those two gaskets/seals and then pressure test the lower unit to see if there are other leaks. The prop seal would be the next seal to check. They get compromised when fishing line gets tangled around the prop shaft. Replace that impeller. It doesn't look like it's fallen apart yet, but when they do, that's when you get chunks clogging the passages.

how do I check if the pasages are cloged. and can I blow them out with air? Also were should I start to blown them out at? I know I have alot of question sorry guys. I got the motor for free so it is to be expected. can I use a power tilt and trim from another year motor? If so what years? and is it better to buy the service manuel for my exact year and hp or just buy the general one?

Well, free is a very good price. If the cylinders all have good compression and the motor looks like it's in good shape, it is well worth investing some time and money into it and gettin 'er into shape. One note to remember. It only takes a few seconds to fry a water pump, if there is no water and it looks like that is what has been done. I would do everything you can to get the rubber chunks out, so they don't get up into the powerhead and clog any passages. You could probably attack a vacuum hose up and suck out what you can, out of the pick up tubes.

As far as the lower unit goes, I would try a fresh change of oil, along with some fresh gaskets for the drain and vent plugs. After one use, you'll be able to see if water is still getting in. Of course too, check and make sure there is no fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft.

Seloc Volume IV will cover your motor. Some here will recemend you buy a factory service manual, but those are more expensive and personally, I think Seloc manuals cover things pretty good, for what you have going here. I have 4 volumes and have used them for years, without any complaints.

Yea, 14 bucks is pretty darned good. I'm willing to bet, that the 85hp and 135hp around the same years as yours would be interchangeable, but don't quote me on that. I'm willing to bet that there will be someone chime in who would know better about tilt and trims than I do and can give you more specifics on it. I believe 1969 was the first year that the V-4 designs matched that of your motor.
