I got my W/P repair kit, BRP# 5001594 and in the instructions it indicates to use ":Gasket sealing compound" on the cup that the impeller goes into. It just has an arrow pointing to the cup. Where do I put the compound? The outside, bottom of the cup? The cup has an "O" ring that sits between the cup and impeller housing. Is the compound ment to hold the "O" ring in place during assembly? #11 is what I'm talking about.

It doesn't go on the liner, but on the pump housing base #7 to hold the O ring in place during assembly. Put it on all the cap screws as well (if you want them to come out again in a year or two). Be careful not to get any inside the pump and use only a fairly thin coat.

Re: Water pump repair kit

Doing a water pump myself and as I read it, a small thin amount of sealer in the channel that the oring goes in to help hold it in place for reassembly to and improve the seal, and then a bit more on the portion of the impellor housing outside of the oring channel. Seal and lube in correct amounts and in correct locations is a very important step in repair work. Over use of sealent can cause you problems if it squeezes out into areas it ain't intended to be in.

Good luck.
