Water pump replacement Electramatic

Hi,
Replacing the water pump on this johnson 40 hp electracmatic form 1964. Anything i need to be careful of?

If your motor is like my '67 Electramatic 80hp(my parts motor)....You'll need to disconnect the 2 shift wires. I believe that they disconnect up at the back of the powerhead.

Before you drop the lower unit tie a piece of strong string to the wires going to the lower unit. Then when it comes time to put it back on you can use this string to pull the wires back up. Sure makes it easier to do.

I believe you'll have to pull that bottom cover off the rear of the mtr to get at the back l/u bolt.
