I am replacing the water pump on my 1995 Alpha one gen. two out drive.

The manual shows there being a "water seal" on the input shaft above the water pump. Mine did not have one of these. Should I have one? It did not come with the impeller kit.

Also there is some oil on the out side of the plastic speed sensor housing. Should I be concerned about this? Is this seal easy to change?

Thanks for any help.

You absolutely must have the V-seal on the top of the pump housing. If the oil was only noticed after you removed the housing, then it's likely it's just dropped down from the bottom of the top housing... Did you finish the job with a pressure test?

I just want to confirm, is this impeller installed in the correct direction? That is the way it was when I took it apart.

If you put the lower unit in gear and slowly rotate the prop by hand... either forward or reverse... with the impeller already installed on the shaft.. slowly installing the top cover over the impeller, the vertical shaft will turn the correct direction...

It will turn the same either forward or reverse, so will take the guess work out of it and will help get the top cover and inpeller in position easier and the impeller will be the correct way.
