water pump

just got a used 25 hp 1988 model motor i put it in a barrell and it seems like after it gets a certain temp it starts pumping water or after i rev it up isnt the water pump suspose to start pumping as soon as u crank it?

should take a few secs to maybe 30 secs. pump has to fill all the passages etc, before you see anything on tell tale from return flow. if it doesn't want to show up till it gets a rev or takes a long time then inmellor fins are getting weak
