Ok getting closer to going out for the first time. Just trying to educate myself as much as possible before I go. After reading some post Im realizing that one of the things i might run into is a failing water pump. I have a 1977 115 hp ob Evinrude. What should I be looking for? From what i have read I should see a steady steam of water coming from one of the holes in the top of my engine.

Re: Water pump

You should be looking for a whole bunch of stuff.

Is this boat new to you?
Do you know the history?

Lets say you got this boat from uncle Jack and he took great care of it and it was winterized last year and all was well. Then you start it it up and look for water out of the pee hole, touch the thermostat housings ans see if they feel about the same.

Or you bought this from your Aunt Nancy who had the boat sitting for 6 years after Uncle Herb passes away (God rest his sole)
You will need to visit the top of this forum for Carb and fuel advise.
