Put new water pump on 1984 8 hp Mariner. Tested it before I put foot back on and it pumped well. Put foot back on motor pump won't pump. No water is not coming out port just exhaust. Took it back apart everything it as it should be with pump. Stood motor upside down put water in lower half of motor and blew air through port to see if there was a hole in copper tube. No hole there but blowing bubbles on other side of motor from where tube goes in. What could that possible be? Thanks in advance.

Are you 100% sure you did not get water into the cylinders ??-----You poured water into where exactly?-----You might want to start this motor to make sure crankcase does not have water in it !

I'm not familiar with your particular engine, but a general problem is that water the delivery tube from the pump has not engaged with the receiver in the mid section when you reinstalled the lower unit. Remove, check alignment as the lower unit is reinstalled. Best if you have a helper so you can visually verify the two tubes engage correctly and fully. Not to mention the shift shaft, that is another pesky item that must be right before you bolt up.

It is engaged correctly. First thing I thought too. Tube has no hole in it. Just don't understand where water is going and why exhaust is coming out water port. Thanks.

Did the water tube stick in the pump housing when you took it apart ?----When there is no water in the engine the tell tale port is open to exhaust passageway.----Just a fact on outboards.-----Was the water tube installed in the exhaust housing when you installed the lower unit ??----
