Going to replace water pump on my 88hp Evinrude. I see people on youtube lube the stainless steel cup and wear plate with many different things to prevent a dry start up.
Some use 2 stroke oil, Mavel mystery oil, marine grease, Dish soap, etc. What is the correct lube to use? or does it matter? Thanks.

There is no such thing as a " dry start up " on a water pup impeller.------On muffs or boat launched the water pump will be flooded with WATER , which is the lubricant !------The grease or other potion will be gone after a few minutes.-----People do not lubricate water pumps 6 months after the impeller has been replaced !!!

I know there is no real "dry start up", but it seems everyone uses some type of lubricant to protect their new impeller during that first start. Everything washes away shortly afterword. I was just wondering what lubricant was the best in this situation?
No need to get upset. I am just trying to learn this stuff like many others.

Teaching simple stuff can be difficult.-----Some videos on outboards can be entertaining as well.
