hello,i just removed my lower unit and removed the pump housing.now how do i remove the impeller.i am afraid to pry because my manual say not to lift the shaft.it does say remove impeller and key.where is the key.1984 johnson 35hp.thanks
I believe, from the last time I replaced mine, the key they refer to is a half moon shaped piece of metal that sits in the shaft. It has a name, I just can't recall. It causes the impellar to spin with the shaft. Should come out without a hassle. I would HIGHLY recommend an OEM manual. Good luck
Is the impeller off yet? If it's still on the shaft, it is covering the key. The key is what turns the impeller when the shaft turns, and it does this by sticking out into the slot in the hub of the impeller. <br />The impeller should just pull straight off the driveshaft (right off the end). If it's stuck, a little penetrating oil might help it.
