Re: water pump

I believe, from the last time I replaced mine, the key they refer to is a half moon shaped piece of metal that sits in the shaft. It has a name, I just can't recall. It causes the impellar to spin with the shaft. Should come out without a hassle. I would HIGHLY recommend an OEM manual. Good luck

Re: water pump

Is the impeller off yet? If it's still on the shaft, it is covering the key. The key is what turns the impeller when the shaft turns, and it does this by sticking out into the slot in the hub of the impeller. <br />The impeller should just pull straight off the driveshaft (right off the end). If it's stuck, a little penetrating oil might help it.

Re: water pump

If its the half moon tapered key then usually you can get a stuck impellor loose by turning the impellor itself clockwise on the shaft.

You can't pull the key out separately. It falls out when you remove the impeller. Its very small and fits between the impeller and the shaft.
