On my last postings you guys on this forum were helpful regarding a bunch of issues .
Weeks ago I smelt rubber burning, and temp gauge was slowly going from cool too hot.
It time too change water impellar . ( done it before and went smooth )
When I dropped gear oil it was good color no water mixing

Changed impellar thinking I did a good job, but only got a few weeks usage, burnt out after few trips.
I installed fins clock wise instead of counter clock wise and burnt out fast.
That's what I thought and some of you said should not make a difference,
For the 20 dollars changed again.
Purchased another impellar, installed , filled with new gear oil . Tested, started fine but when throttle was
in neutral prop was spinning. Had too drop lower unit again. When I drained gear oil it had water mixed in?
Did not do that prior ?
Also had water in lower unit cavity ? Should there be water in there ?
Dropped lower unit again, re did impellar, lined gears and saw what I did wrong. Shaft gears were in reverse ?
Corrected everything, gears lined up working fine. Added fresh gear oil, synthetic .
Ran on rabbit ears 1/2 hr and everything is working fine.
Moving forward a week I dropped gear oil wanting too make sure water is still not mixing, prior too using boat, and I think it still is mixing ?
I used a synthetic oil its yellow and not sure if water mixed in but its slightly milky , so think some thing is
with water pipe or I know there is a little O ring on lower unit inside cavity,
Any ideas guys ?
I have dropped this lower unit so many times I feel I am at a Boat race .

Thanks

Man, hate when something like that happens, you take some thing apart multiple times, and still have a problem or a new problem.. You should read the stickies above they may help you, sounds like its time for a pressure test on the drive before you tear it apart again.

Good Luck !!!

Did you replace the quad ring in the oil passage between the two halves of the outdrive? Sounds like it might be leaking or missing.

That is what I was thinking at first too but it happens on muffs (possible because of no seal between the halfs) but there would be oil leaking out also on land.

You got a couple ideas there to go with and pressure testing seems right to make sure it is all sealed but regarding your writing about the impeller turned the wrong way/right etc.

You put a little adhesive on the seal before putting the halves back together to make sure it stays in place?

Whether you are working on a gen2 (serv man 14) or an earlier drive (serv man 6) the procedure in each shows to put the impeller on the gear housing first, then push down the water pump body while turning the drive shaft clockwise. That will eliminate any guessing.
I have attached the document our past mentor Don :)pray:) put together and around page 8 you see what to do.
