Water seperator questions....

I just had a water seperator added on to my boat about a month ago. It looks like an oil filter with a clear drain reservoir on the bottom. I have a few questions: <br /><br />1) is this a fuel filter, too?<br />2) How often do I change the filter?<br />3) I looks like the water just drains out. Is<br /> this true?<br />4) Why is it important to have a water seperator?<br /><br />Thanks.

Hi Tex,yes it is also a fuel filter and the water it collects can be drained off at the bottom.I change mine once a season.Water seems to collect in marine applications more than you want it to.Just like water in your cars gas tank,you need to get rid of it.If you wait too long to drain or change it your motor will quit one day when the water gets into the fuel lines.Charlie

we just had a customer in with a 150 Yammie...with no separator on a 3 year old boat he had collected enough water in the fuel to wash one of his cylinders lean...end result= $2550 repair bill...change filter once a year...drain bowl OFTEN...what you have sounds like a Racor brand filter=prox $18
