water skiing off boat with outboard bracket

I have a 1986 21' Grady White Overnighter with a Yamaha 175 on the Grady bracket. I am also a new boater. I use this mainly for fishing but would like to be able to pull a skiier once in a while. Trouble is that the motor is quite far away from the transom, so even with pulley harness the motor is in the way. Does any know of a product designed to solve this? I wouldn't want to mount anything permanent, I was picturing some SS steel tubes that clip onto the tie down hooks and meet beyond the motor, or something like that. Also, am I being ridiculous for wanting to ski off this type of boat?

How about something on the cheap, like two 6 foot half-inch PVC pipes, with a rope in each one then tied together to form a V where your skier's rope attaches

Isn't a pulley harness just a rope with a pulley with a floatation bouy? It would seem like a guy could just make a larger harness using a longer rope. Do I win?

Yes, I think the pvc pipe idea would work and I'll give it a try. The longer harness with pulley would not work as the angle between the boat and skiier when they go out to the side would be the same and the rope would still hit the motor. Something ridged is needed to move the pivot point. I like the pvc idea and it is very simple and cheap. Thanks.

XMurray,

I found a link on the net that makes ski poles, I know there are lots of manufacturers that make removeable poles and towers (not so removable). These devices put the rope above the deck (sometimes way above) and should not interfear with your motor, I will be mouting one of these myself, since I like to fish and ski. I hope this is a good start.

http://www.shuswapsnb.com/TenFoot.html

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
