I just replaced the water pump with the whole replacement kit.(Everything) even changed the lower unit oil while I was there. Question is: I am now questioning my memory as to weather or not I secured the plastic sleeve that sits down in the cup that the copper water tube sits in. It's there, but I'm not sure now if it's properly seated. What kind of damage can occur if I do not go back in and properly seat the sleeve.??? It's no problem other than doing it all over again. It's still in the driveway and hasn't been test driven as of yet...

Welcome aboard djames! I changed your thread title to Water sleeve. If you can think of something better let me know. It would be really helpful if you posted what motor, vintage, horsepower etc. that you are working on. You'll get more focused responses that way. Good luck!

The sleeve is just a convenient guide to get your tube started in your pump . It doesnt even need to be there.

Did you insert the water tube into the rubber gromet to see if it was tight? If it,s in there it should be ok. Did the pump housing seat properly flush with the metal plate and gaskets on the water pump base? Yes Make modle HP year are always helpfull too. As stated in next post the sleeve is mearly a guide for the water tube to find it,s way into the gromet

Thanks max for responding to my question. As you know I'm very new to this site. When I was filling everything out I did write all info about the motor in a separate area, but obviously it didn't show up. 2004 mercury 135hp optimax saltwater. All installation went very smoothly and was extremely confident that it was correct. If my common sense is working correctly the water that pisses out when the motor is running wouldn't do that if the tube was misaligned, is this a correct assumption Max ?? And 1 more question if you don't mind Max. Does the "title" refer to a nickname or the topic you want info on??

Thank,s for responding QC. I did all that at first when it asked me, but on my first and second attempts to write a message,I guess I had to re-write it in again and again. It was a little confusing on the first time. Every site has some confusing attributes or hurdles to get over..2004 135hp Merc. optimax saltwater

If the stream coming out of the engine is good and strong you should be fine. I believe you,ve done well. The name Max was one of my first screen names i had when I started using the PC. Because Max or Mad max was not available and I was doing alot of date serching at that time I added the 69 and the 5 for 1/2 It was easy for me to remember and so I still use it today on some sites.
