I have a 1995 40hp mariner magnum. It takes about 10 or 15 seconds before water comes out of the tell-tale at start up. The engine shoots a steady stream at idle once it sprays out. Is this normal?

Yes it is. It won't spit till it's warm enough to open the t-stat.

Thank you for the reply, I feel much better now not worrying if my powerhead was going to "fry".

What year did they start putting T-stats on mercs. I have an 84 90hp torn apart and haven't seen one any where on the power head.
