Water softner repair question

I just found a very small crack in the plastic housing that sits on top of the resin tank on my Culligan softner. It drips at a drop every 2 Seconds or so. Anyone think it's a bad idea to clean and use silicone to seal the crack? Any concern in polluting the water supply? It's bypassed for the last ten days so its dry as it gets. Thanks.

Re: Water softner repair question

I don't think silicone is going to hold for long if at all.
I would try some type of epoxy or if you have a soldering gun with the plastic melting tip you may be able to "weld" the crack with some plastic knitting needles.
