water spraying from upper vent holes in lower unit

I noticed that there is exhaust and water spritzing from the vent holes at the top of the lower unit. is this from a bad exhaust seal?
85 mercury 50hp 4cyl 2 stroke.

How about a picture. Exhaust relief holes are at the rear and upper part of the midsection to allow exhaust gasses out when starting the engine, reducing back pressure. Cooling water is part of the exhaust. Some engines and under certain conditions water or mist can come out of those holes; no biggie.

If you don't have water and exhaust coming from those relief ports, you have a problem.
How are you trying to post pics?

well Im glad to hear that. got the picture up, just to confirm its the vents in the middle of picture on mercury, not on that sweet a$% tomos behind it. thanks gang
