I went on vacation this week and my brother likes to water ski, I prefer knee boarding hehe...

He has a cable for my pull eyelets that has a pulley on it for his rope. Needless to say the pulley somehow got caught on my engine and broke the plastic cover / reducer for my tell tail. The hose for the water outlet is long so I pulled it out a little and use wire ties to hold it there. Just for vacation...

Now is time to fix it. Can I just make something to keep a small piece of the hose outside or is better to get a new cover? The stream now is obviously larger since the reducer / cover is gone.

Where can I get the part if I need to replace it? Its not very common on most websites. Anyone fix this problem with something else?

Any information, comments, or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Because of the restrictor feature you should replace it. Otherwise you are bleeding off a portion of the cooling water. Admittedly, not much but...

A dealer should be able to help with the part. If all else fails, ishopmarine.com The shipping charges may or may not make up for the gas you would be burning to go to a dealer.

Thanks for the info...

I was looking at ishopmarine.com's ecatalog and Johnson section. What is the exact name of the part? I can't seem to find it on their website.

Thanks,

On my engine they refer to it as a lower engine cover 'nipple.'Actually the part is a flow restrictor. What engine do you have?I'm still trying to understand how yours got broken.:D

This is very interesting, The prints for my motor only show a 1/4" hose no nipple! Which is all my motor had on it when I got it, so I thought the nipple was missing.

OB, I remenber you said that you had a motor like mine at one time, did yours only have a hose? The hose is called an "overboard indicator".

Model # E50TLETB

Thanks

J60ELCIA 1981 is my engine

The cable / pulley my brother had was a little too tight and when turning or when he went outside the wake while water skiing it would rub the outboard. We fixed it but after the "nipple" broke off. It would catch on the side of the outboard and not become free unless he pulled the rope a little.

My engine definitely had the nipple / restrictor. Now it is at the bottom of the river. =p
