Water should come out the telltale when the engine is running, hot or cold. Where is the rust on the plugs? On the electrode is not good as this indicates water in the cylinders. Is it on all plugs? Does it start easily? Need as much info as possible.

Liam

When should the water comeout of the telltale after it warms up and the thermostate opens or right from the get go when its cold. With my old thermo in it would take 2 minutes before any water cameout so I figured the thermo was bad. After replacing this part now water comes out even when cold. I ran the engine yesterday for 5 minutes and found the spark plugs never warmed up. There were signs of rust on the new spark plugs. So I used storage seal in the cyls just to be sure. I purchased this boat 2 months ago and do not have a manual as to how it should work.

I dont belive water could get in the cyls? My engine never seems to warm up I can touch any part of the engine when its running. I figured that its not getting warm enough to burn the fuel and is causing water condensation.

Did the thermostat have a spring to hold it in the block?
Rust on plugs calls for compression test.

Many outboards run cool to the touch for quite a while. Thermostat is only 130 degree.
