water temp gauge

Hey guys i have a 1994 3.0 mercruiser .My question is ,is there a way that i can put a second temp gauge in my boat for a backup just in case the primary doesnt work right. If so where on the motor would do this. and do i have to use the sending unit type. just looking to protect my investment.
heard horror stories of over heating.

You may have an extra plug in the housing. Some did. I would use a mechanical gauge on the engine for a back up.

Boat temp gauges are notorious for being flaky at best.
