I have a 86 Mariner 150hp V6. When washing the motor out using muffs the water flow from the outlet is moderate until the thermostat opens up and then water flow increases. The question is after the motor has warmed up and the flow of water has increased how hot should the water be. The water coming from the outlet is hot but not hot enough to burn. Is this normal or not. Thanking you in advance.

Re: Water temp

Hi Stocky,<br />Last year I bought a new 150 Mercury. After my first outing, I put my muffs on to wash out the salt water. I noticed the water coming out of the p-hole was actually smoking in the middle of the summer in Louisiana. Needless to say, I freaked out. I just spent nearing nine grand and thought I was about to watch it catch on fire. I immediately called the dealer along with placing a post on this sight to find out it was normal. It seems that the water circulates around the block first before it comes out on these engines to the tune of about 150-170 degrees. You will also notice it takes an entire minute or two after starting before the water begins to come out. Don't panic, It will be OK. Have fun on the water. That Mercury is a good engine.
