I was thinking of installing a water temperature sensor on a 1991 suzuki DT85. The 1991 doesnt come installed by the factory but i have found out that 1992 does. If i ordered the 1992 temperature sensor, would it plug into the electrucal panel? i have noticed there is two extra connectors, one is black and the other i cannot remember what color it is. If this is installed, how do i know the operating temp?? Do i have to somehow hook up a temp guage? Just trying to consider my possibilities....

I am not sure why you want a guage, but I do not suggest adding to the electrical system without using the manual. I recall the manual showing how to wire one into the DT 85 system, but not the wiring. I think it hoocks us to the alarm in the throttel. Besides having the guage to look at, do you have a reason to want one for the DT 85? It already has a pee hole and alarm to warn of high temp.

Re: Water temperature sensor for 1991 suzuki DT85

We have been having some overheating issues and whatnot lately. We also had water in the bottom cylinder and had to change the exhaust cover gasket thus doing so by removing the engine and practically drilling out all of the corroded bolts and installing heli coils. The alarm still goes off and we cant isolate the problem...We checked the thermostat, tested the flow sensor and etc. My dad ran the motor without the thermostat for a few mins and the alarm stopped. He put the thermostat back in and then disconnected the water alarm. After 20 mins he noticed the paint on the head was starting to bubble and that is when he decided to just send it in to a shop. Pee hole is pissing fine and water comes out of the exhaust port from time to time as it should. I am just thinking of installing a WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR to actually monitor the the temp of the engine while in operation to prevent any future overheating problems before it gets severe and empties my pockets.....

I'd get a water pressure guage kit and a water temperature guage kit so that you had all the pieces you need instead of playing with the engine sensors. The water temperature sending unit is for alarm conditions, not necessarily for continuous use. There should be a tapped connection point on the exhaust plate for water pressure and may be able to use the same port for temp.
