Water temperatures sensor importance?

So I've done a full tune up and including pulling the fuel cell and cleaning pump screens and pressure tests. Was reading up on Throttle Body FI. And it seems the water temp sensor plays a big role in how your boat will run and perform. My temp gage works fine. Sooo , that should mean no reason to change the temp sensor? Correct? Lake test is tomorrow to see if I can hit my 4600 rpm wife h the 14.5 by 19 pitch prop. After only hitting 4200.

The computer will adjust for colder ECT reading by increasing the fuel injector pulse a bit. If your engine routinely runs cold, then the computer will make it run rich, as it tries to compensate.

Ok so if sparks plugs look like they are a bit wet and been running rich. Then water temp sensor may be out/bad. But what if the temp gauge works fine. Is it the same sensor that operates the temp gage. Sucks that there is no obd2 port for a scan tool how in the hell do you know if there is a bad sensor causing a small computer problem if there is no way to scan the system. Like a car.

Ahh . . . but there is.

In fact that is pretty much what you will need to diagnose a fuel injected marine engine.

I have one . . . not cheap, but neither is going to a boat shop every time the engine starts to hiccup.

The temp sender for the gauge is not the same as the temp sender for the EFI computer. In a car it would be called a coolant temp sensor, not sure what the marine name is but it will have 2 wires going to it, should be in the water neck and the sender for the gauge in the intake, the gauge sender will be 1 wire. .

well if it's only the scan tool that's needed for 499. It's worth it. Heck i paid that much for the untune diablo sport for the cars scan tool.

gott it. Found the coolant temp sensor on the t-stat housing. Unplugged it while boat was running to test. Boat started running rough. So I guess it's doing its job. Lol.
