I have an 84 3.0 alpha. With the boat sitting in the water not running water is entering the boat through a small hole located just above the gimble bearing. I have replaced the bellows one year ago. The problem started this summer. I replaced the drive mounting gasket set 3 times. My thinking was I messed up the gasket or the big o ring during the installation. I checked the bellows each time and can find no cracks or tears. This is a fresh water only boat. All metal surfaces look good. No corrosion. The bellows mounting flanges looked good.
Any ideas on my next direction.

If the bellows is not sitting in the groove where it fits on the transom shield, it WILL leak, and the bellows may look like it's installed properly. Pull the bellows and look at the marks on the bellows.

Bad bellows or leaky drive that is going into the bellows through a bad yoke seal.....Pull the drive again....Drain it first to see if you have water present....Pressure test it....If it holds pressure, either the gimbal ring, bellows or transom shield is faulty.....My guess is bad bellows or installation...If you have water coming out of the weep hole, you have a bellows full of water.. :( ...At least it is not salt water ;) Pull the drive and you may be able to save the gimbal bearing, yoke seal & U-joints....JK

Bell housing, not gimbal ring....Do what Don S. says first.....But do use the grease gun to push out any water that got in the U-joints/gimbal bearing ASAP....JK

Thanks!
I did grease alot and often to push the water out. The bearing still feels ok. I do want to replace it but not till I sure the leak is fixed.
I'll work on the bellows over the winter but won't be able to test till spring.
The oil in the drive looked good when I drained for winterizing.

That's good, I would still pressure check it, though...If the bellows are 3 years old, and you have to fix them anyway, I would part with the $50. or so and get a new one...IMHO...Good Luck....JK
