After replacing kingpin on engine bracket assmbly I am reinstalling the watertube and grommet. according to the parts breakdown they show the smaller end up. Is this correct. It doesnt fit into opening on upper plate and will end up being crushed. Seems to me it should be smaller end down. Any one familiar with this motor. I am including a diagram. Number 4 is the grommet 5 is the water tube and 1 is the adapter plate the water tube fits in.

The diagram shows the flare is up, so the small end goes down into the water pump. How could it fit any other way?

Sorry about misunderstanding . I was referring to the grommet which is number 4. On the grommet it shows smaller end up which just gets crushed. Might be better if I took pictures.

Looks like the smaller diameter end is up, looks like it goes up inside an opening.
What do you mean by that it would get crushed?,

Try sliding the grommet on the tube from the small end??
Then push assy. up into the spacer plate.
