Model 25930 35 hp 1957, upon impeller replacement on this motor I noticed
water still present in the gearcase housing. to the rear of the impeller assy.
is a well in the casting, looks to be inline with a small dia.hole in the gearcase housing. Is this hole on the starboard side 3 inches above the seam of the gearcase supposed to be a drain hole?

Thanks Steve

yes, the drain hole is there so no water remains in lower unit, when stored for the winter (where it gets cold enough to freeze)

Re: water weep hole near gear case?

I had the same problem on my 59' 35hp. it was suggested that I take a very long 1/8" drill bit and drill from the top down to clear out the "gunk". but you have to be very careful not to go too far. what I did was hold the drill bit up next to the lower unit, so that the tip of the bit was as close to the center of the exit hole as possible. then with a piece of tape I marked the top edge of the lower unit on the drill bit. this way I knew that when I got to the tape I should stop so that I didn't drill too far down. I hope this makes sense. good luck:)
