Water will not drain

Hi Boaters,

I have a 99 Stingray 190 RX w/ the 6 cylinder Mercruiser

My problem is that the water will not drain out of the ski locker.

I have tried snaking it with a stiff coated wire from inside the cockpit and with an "electrical snake" (a stiff but flexible flat wire about 1/4" x 9 foot long) from the stern drain plug when out of the water.

It seems like I am hitting a solid wall and I cannot get the snake to go above or below this blockage.

I do not want to force it as that may cause more damage to something else.

Any thoughts out there to remedy this problem??

Thanks,

Re: Water will not drain

Our ski lockers get a lot of complaints. Join the stingray site and you might get more advice on what else to use to snake them out.

I also know, sitting in the water, mine does not have enough angle to drain, but mine does on the trailer with the nose jacked up.

Good luck!

Re: Water will not drain

Thanks Willy - I am a member of the Stingray owners group and got the idea of the electricians snake from there.

I have the problem both on trailer and in water.

Any other help / ideas appreciated.

Happy boating!

Re: Water will not drain

Still no answer - Posted on mystingray.com and asked if anyone from stingray monitors the owners site...you think they would.

also called a dealers service dept but pretty much zero help saying it is common that foam gets clogged during manf. process.

the design of the hull may have a patent number but the design of the drain sucks....and why would you design a drain that does not work while the boat is in the water or could not be snaked????

at least address the problem with a recall or info on how to fix.

does anyone from stingray monitor this site?

Re: Water will not drain

FINALLY!

OK I looked and looked for a way to contact Stingray and the only way I was able to contact Stingray was by posting on their twitter account.

After a few tweets back and forth I heard back from the factory person via an email to get an 8' steel rod, then flatten out one end (like a screwdriver) - insert the other end into a drill, insert from drain plug opening and then "drill" through the foam.

I went to the local hardware store and got (2 ) 1/4" diameter 6' threaded rods and a connector (about $7.00) .....pounded one end flat, inserted and drilled and IT WORKED.

I am sure it will clog up again so I am keeping the rod handy.

Good luck to others.
