Waterproof Iphone Case

Seeing as we usually have at least 2 iphones on our boat I would like a little more protection for them while out on the water. Pretty sure there will come a time when one gets accidentally dropped overboard.

I've been searching the web and have found a few. Problem is many of them claim to be waterproof but they don't float. Doesn't seem much use having a waterproof case if it doesn't float. If the phone finds the bottom of the lake it's staying there anyway, waterproof or not.

Anyway I like the Sealine I-Series model which is waterproof but it does not float as mentioned. I would even consider some sort of watertight pouch to throw all of our electronics in.

Anyone else worry about this stuff and have and ideas?

Guess one option is to just be responsible for my belongings but.........that option doesn't always prevail :)

A Zip-Lock Freezer bag is amazingly Waterproof and very rugged.

Need proof? Stick something the size of the phone wrapped with paper towels in one.
Hold it at the bottom of a sink of water for a few minute, and then take it in the shower with you.
The paper towels will still be totally dry! :D

Some of the Otter Box cases are waterproof but I have never seen one that floats, you would have to hook a floating key chain like your boat keys should be on to get it to float and even then I think it would be too heavy.

I normally hook mine to the fish finder with the belt hollster, then it is positively attached to the boat.

I have a G'Zone Cammando so mine comes water proof but they certainly won't float.

I guess be as careful as you can and make sure you have insurance.

Pelican Cases are waterproof, but expensive... They have a caribiner clip for easy fastening.

West Marine has them. I'm not sure if iBoats has the same sort of thing.

I use the small snack size zip lock bags they fit just right. And you can use the touch screen through the bag. I then put the phone in a plastic container along with all the boating paperwork. Everything is in sealed bags just in case.

Google "Lifeproof case" They are a permanent case you put the iphone into, and it still allows use of the phone. They also have an optional life preserver for the case. It uses Gor-Tex fabric over the speaker/microphone. I have seen them on friends phones, and they work remarkably well. They are expensive, $80-$100, as long as you refrain from taking the phone in and out of the case too much, they work pretty well. ^^^^ Idlespeed beat me to it!

I have used the same ones as tpenfield for several years. You can use the phone while it is in the case.

For $80-100 you might be better off having the insurance on the phone. If you have the iCloud setup you don't have to worry about lost information. All I have is an otterbox case for impact and a plastic baggy on the boat.

Best option with phones in the boat - turn the damn things off and put them in the glove compartment.

Agreed, but I also use my iPhone as an iPod.

I like to listen to music or Audible books while relaxing.

I have a "Lifeproof" (iPhone Cases and iPad Cases | LifeProof) waterproof case that has a waterproof earphone jack. It's easy to install/uninstall.

Re: Waterproof Iphone Case

Thanks guys !! Gonna pick up one of those dry paks. I see they carry them at Canadian Tire and it looks like the perfect solution.
Since the pak doesn't have a port for connecting to external speakers I'll just grab an old ipod from the junk drawer to cover the music.
