just came back from replacing the waterpump and oh my god, this is so hard...how do you get the gear rods conected. I mean, there is just a small gap between the lower shaft and the upper unit and it is almost imposible to put your fingers in there to put the screw back to hold the top and bottom gear rod. also....after I replaced it I put the motor back in the water and the first minute it was pumping good water, but after that it was jsut spidding out very little water....I took it appart again to see what was wrong, and I couldn't figure it out, I also checked the pee hole by blowing air into it and it doesn't feel like it's clogged

please help

Re: waterpump disaster

Get a fishing magnet one of those jobs that you use when you drop a bolt in a tight spot and can't get it out with your fingers or is out of reach, stick it in there and get hold of the bolt that you didn't pull out, please say you didn't pull both of them because the rods are stainless and the connector is brass, hold the bolt with the magnet and start the other one with a socket and extension (put a little grease in the socket so the bolt won't fall out), you may have to play with the shifter to line up the groove in the shift rod. It's easy once youve done it once, you have to try hooking the linkage back up on a 3 cyl sometime you will see why i say yours is easy.
