Waterpump/pee hole?

Last fall i bought a 98 ranger with a 150 efi. This spring i had a new water pump put in.On a recent trip to the st.lawrence river, one of the people in our fishing party said that it is taking about 15 seconds for the water to come out the peehole.Another boat in our group has the 115 and his takes at least 30 seconds for the water to exit.Is this normal operation for these motors or should i have asked the shop to replace the thermostats and poppit valves? Should these be replaced everytime you change the waterpump- every two years? This is my first mercury motor.
Thanks for any info!

Re: Waterpump/pee hole?

Year of both motors would be helpful... But 15 seconds sound normal... 30 second may be a little bit too long... But I don't think that for sure, and at that short of a time after start-up the thermostats will not have anything to do with it.. The poppet, if it's a problem, will never allow much if any water out of the pee hole at idle...

I'd just worry about the impeller/water pump...

The 150 efi is a 98. Yeah i didnt know if this was normal or not....the guy that noticed it seemed more concerned than me. the mechanic that did the work is a trustworthy guy.i would think he would have said if there were other problems.
