Could a weak fuel pump cause the motor to run lean at WOT and still run 5600rpm.At lower rpm
the spark plugs burn normally. I checked plugs after I came back from lake and they looked too lean but I had just ran down the river a few miles WOT. I crank it in the yard and ran it a few minutes with the muffs on. The next day I took it to the shop to get carbs rebuilt (thought they may be leaning it out)I took a plug out to show them and they looked OK.I left it to get carbs done but after I thought about it I think
the fuel pump may be weak and leaning out at WOT.What do you think? Is this possible? Thanks Randy

Re: weak fuel pump?????

Hey xp,
A bad fuel pump would cause a loss of power but not what I discribe as a lean condition (a mix of too much air & too little fuel getting to the cylinders). I believe rebuilding the carbs will do the trick.
Backlash

Yes. It could be trash in the tank, plugged filter, air leak or obstruction in the fuel line.
Loose carbs, vacum leak,or loss of compression..The fuel pump operates off engine compression.
