weak primer ball

I have a 1996 200 johnson oceanrunner cannot increase speed but sometimes it will get up on plane checked for loose connections at fuel lines visually changed primer ball also fuel filter no leaking needle valves once in a while under power the ball gets a little firmer only checked fuel line visually between gas tank and where it comes into the cable harness that goes into out board engine doesnt miss or hesitate can you check any other way other than visually ? or am i looking in the wrong direction

Did you check or change the primer bulb?<br /><br />Does it make a difference if you run the boat with the fuel fille cap loose?

DJ FLEET ADMIRAL WHY WOULD IT MAKE ADIFFERENCE IF I LOOSENED MY FUEL CAP? JUST CURIOUS THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE TIGHT DESPARATE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM

Because that would eliminate a clogged fuel tank vent, by allowing it to vent through the filler... If it runs good with the cap off, your fuel tank vent is clogged and needs to be cleaned out. Hope that clears it up a bit..

RICKDB1BOAT<br />HAD LEFT THE CAP OFF WHEN I LEFT GAS DOCK BY ACCIDENT IT DIDNT MAKE A DIFFERENCE STILL HAD SAME SYMPTOMTRYING TO NARROW IT DOWNALWAYS PUT A CNDITION CLEANER IN EVERY OTHER TANK DOES IT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING SERIUOS NEED MOR ADVISE THANKS
