i cant start my 3.0 mercruiser, it has a pionts/condensor ignition system.

the coil has voltage but i don't think its getting enough, i haven't started the moter this year,

what could have changed since then to drain volts away from the coil?

Re: weak spark at coil

is battery FULLY charged?, condition of points, plugs, plug wires? condition of electrical wires to coil? there should be 12volts, if not a bit more, to the + side of the coil. if not, then backtrack from there to find out why. but first, make sure battery is charged, and check rest of above mentioned items. go from there.

Re: weak spark at coil

If you have a ballast resistor or wire your voltage at the coil will be 12V with the points open and 8V or so when the points are closed.

More than likely its not a voltage to the coil issue. Change your points and set your dwell and timing and then go from there.
