1994 V6 4.3LX Merc with original Weber 9600S.

Should I install the Edelbrock 1485 calibration kit if I keep the original manifold? If not should I make the 4 jets 0.098 like the original Weber?

Thanks,

Re: Weber 9600S to Edelbrock 1409 - Calibration kit question

I tried it with the Edelbrock 1485 kit installed and engine definitely lack power while bringing the boat on plane. Just found the original Weber use the 4" Hg (yellow) springs instead of the pink and the same metering rods and jets as the ones included in the 1485 kit. I guess replacing the springs by the yellow ones is what I need.

Edelbrock only sells springs in kit (1464) for about 8$. I have 2 engines so x 2 + shipping + tax these springs will end up costing me near 40$.

The 4 jets are 0.089 and NOT 0.098 (my mistake)

Jegs has 'em for $7 each plus $5 handliing... free shipping. Total $19.

I'd be interested in hearing your results with the new springs, as I've just done the 1409/1485 swap myself

No problem I'll post the results here next week. I should receive my kit by Friday.

I'll put the yellow springs and change the accelerator pump to rich (upper hole). I want it to be as close as possible to the original Weber 9600s.

Remember that I have the stock manifold.

You could have just gone to your local automotive center/speed shop and purchased the spring kit.

So you bought a #1409 edelbrock new for around $360.00 and your adding another $20-30.00 and changing the primaries to .089 and secondaries .089 with rods n springs to match your old Weber #9600. Why didn't you buy a rebuilt Weber #9600 for $250.00????

I called all the places around. Could only find 1 kit at 15$. I have 2 engines so I need 2 kits.

I paid 450$ for 2 rebuild Edelbrock 1409 (I have 2 engines) without core exchange. A mechanic offered me a fantastic deal for my old Webers. They didn't end up costing me much. Also the 1409 has electric choke witch is a big plus.

Re: Weber 9600S to Edelbrock 1409 - Calibration kit question

Update: The change was very positive. The boat has a much better acceleration and throttle response after changing to yellow springs and accelerator pump to richest. Didn't change it back to lean for a try as the boat is running really good as it is.

New update: Changed the accelerator pump to lean (middle) and boat run even better.
