Weeds in my Rude!!!

The weeds in my area lakes have been so bad this year, that a few times I've been slowly cruising the lakes and the Overheat alarm starts blaring. So I can do nothing but shut it off an wait about half an hour til it cools down, fire it up and off we go! But we always have to clean out the green crap out of the water intake holes! Hopefully i've done no damage, but it there anything that can be done? Totally avoiding the lake weeds is impossable. Is the weeds sucked into the LU intakes doing any damage??

Weeds in the intakes can indeed do damage to the waterpump, clog cooling passages and thermostats. The normal remedy for weeds is to shift into reverse when you notice weeds on motor (before alarm sounds, hopefully), and run the motor to clear 'em. Then proceed in forward.

if you insist on fishing that lake, get an air cooled motor. you are eventually going to blow a head gasket or worse. i think i would atleast increase the oil in the fuel oil mixture, for added lubrication.
