Got done spending the majority of my Memorial Day weekend working on the boat. Didn't kill myself too badly, only spent about eight hours each day. Riveted the top to the hull using about 150 aluminum rivets. Thought about stainless rivets, but they were way too spendy, and the aluminum rivets are still better than the staples they replaced. I then screwed on the aluminum rubrail bracket with another 150 stainless screws, about twice as many as were originally on, and those were rusted steel. I mounted the 125 horse Merc, and that was my Saturday.

Sunday I spent the day building the bulkhead that takes the place of the consoles that were cut off, and that took a large portion of the day, although I admit I took a lot of breaks.

Today I glassed in the base of the bulkhead I spent Sunday fitting in, and I also foamed under the floor. I used a two inch holesaw and cut 14 holes, elevated the bow, and filled four stringer voids, totalling 16 cubic feet of floatation foam, about twice as much as was originally installed. I used the cut out wood to place back in the holes and held them down with a 25 pound weight. Worked well, no blowouts. Finally, I glassed over the holes with some mat, and called it a day. Next is building the console and seat, running controls, wiring, fuel tank, battery, enclosing splashwell, and finishing touches. My lake level is still too low, so its okay if it takes a few more weeks, although I am definatley in the home stretch now.

Bgriffin67, don't get too excited, the console is going to be pretty basic, and it will be made of wood, partly because it is easier and partly because it will bring some weight forward. As it is, now that I have mounted the outboard, I can lift the trailer tongue very easily with one hand. Hey, I wanted lighter and I am getting lighter... :D

looks good!! the areas where the windshield used to be if reinforced would be good for forward rod holders or antenna mounts.
you made alot of space by removing the slash well.
but are you going to build a barrier against back wash or swells?
or is it just the angle of the picture?

2kboat, I'll be building a bulkhead that will come up to where the outboard is when it is tilted up for trailering. I will have a hinged panel that will pivot up and lock in place, bringing the height up even with the rest of the back deck. I forget who suggested the hinged panel on this board, but I am implementing it, it was a good idea. I need the hinged panel because the outboard is five million feet tall and would strike the bulkhead in the tilted position if it went all the way even with the upper deck.

Re: Weekend Skank-fest complete

jason i know what you mean. when i started my cobra project before i switched to the trophy. i had bought two of those old mercs to make one to replace the 125 force. <only because i couldnt find a good used force> then the buddy i sold it to traded it in for a new mariah. and you could imagine my shock when i went to where he trade the project into, to see all those good parts sitting in a junk pile. hell i even asked how much to buy the cobra back because all the wood was just replaced and they said 1800. they only gave 500 for it.
anyway i like what your doing with the beast im thinking of getting the 77 glastron tri back from my other buddy <i got one of the mercs off of that boat> ill post a picture when i get the film developed.
like to have it for the diversion canals and upper cooper, ashley and edisto rivers.
and i figured it would be a good start & learning process before the trophy project.
i can tell that the transom is mush so im going to assume the stringers are to. just got to give him the 2bills before i take off the top.
i waiting your total outcome before i decide on leaving it as is or cc.
