Hey people , during this aug long weekend I chewed up my prop , I'm just wondering how to find the proper prop for my motor , it's a 1985 50hp Johnson . Basicaly I just want to know how I could find the right fit for the shaft , then I can look at the diffrent pitches & types after . Also , it's a electric trim , & the two bolts ( one on each side ) that hold the actuator to the moter sheared off , they were just cheap bolts , so would any one know what the size of theses are or a part number ? Thanx for the help

Re: Weekend trouble

This site has a prop finder for your motor. Also, marine stores have the same.

Re: Weekend trouble

cool thanx , i found it , didnt know about the prop finder the only thing is , i wrote down what my prop had on it & it doesnt match up with anything on this chart ?? my prop had 11-3/4x17 ? can anyone tell me what this means ? also , my electric trim where the 2 actuator arms connect to the motor should have some sort of bushing that slides over the bolt & fits snug into the holes ?? if so , how would i find this ?? thanx again

Re: Weekend trouble

Look at the parts breakdown for your engine, it shows 2 bushings on each bolt.

Re: Weekend trouble

Your prop numbers :: 11 3/4" X 17" diametewr X pitch.
!7" is the key number look up props for your motor in a 17" pitch
The diameter will follow. The 17 means that disregarding slip the prop moves
17" forward in one revolution.

Re: Weekend trouble

ok , im sorry , im not quite getting what your saying . so 11 3/4 " is the diameter of my prop & 17" is the pitch ? & the 17 means that the boat will move 17" in one revolution of the propeller ? i dont want to change anything , the boat was great , so when looking to buy a prop i would ask for a 11 3/4" diameter X 17" pitch ?? im sorry , these are probably dumb questions but im just trying to understand better & learn . i thank you all very much for your help
