Hi All,

Just thought i woould give you some feedback on this weekend's boating.

My Johnson 115 hp (1980)now runs really well, but i am only getting +- 5200 RPm at WOT and around 38 MPH . The boat is a 16tf run around. The prop is 17 pitch.

The timing has been set at 28 degrees by the mechanic who eventually fixed the motor, would changing down to 24 degrees help/improve matters?

Finally, one of the bolts fell out of the centre casing between the two banks (Just above the thermostat casing) of cyliners while travelling at WOT, it sounded like i lost one of the pistons, tapping very loudly. Why would one little hole cause such a loss of power/noise?

Stephen

Re: Weekend

Maty.... If you're speaking of a bolt falling out of the large rectangular plate between the cylinder heads, that is a outer and inner exhaust baffle plate assy.... red hot exhaust in the inner area, and cooling water between the inner plate and the outer plate.

There are many water passages in the vertical bolt center section of that plate. Having a bolt back out would, in all probability, allow water to escape into the exhaust area which would find its way into the exhaust ports, pistons, etc.
