Weep hole told me

With my recent purchase of an 89 tracker bass boat I knew there would be trouble. It has a Johnson Traker 90 hp motor on it. Oh well.

I put the muffs on to adjust the idle speed the other day and noticed a stream of water coming from a weep hole on the right side of the motor (drivers side)
There are 2 on that side above the shaft housing. The one towards the back of the boat is the one that is leaking. Also water was coming out of the weep hole at the water pump. Still have a decent pee hole stream but feel it could be better.

I'm on vacation in a couple of weeks so I better get the parts ordered now.

What parts are you going to order?
On some engines when running on a hose there will be water coming out of some bypass holes, when in the water you just don't see them.
Hang on for a little while and see if someone comes along with more knowledge on that engine, might be normal.

The holes are drain holes, which allow the mid section and upper lower unit to drain all water so the motor doesn't suffer freeze damage. Completely normal for water to come from a bunch of places while on the hose.

Maybe I am a little gun shy after reading all of the potential problems. I usually try and fix small problems before they become major. I used to ride motorcycles and even my Harley never left me stranded.

I will order a water pump kit if nothing else to have on hand.
Also will change the gear lube oil just to be on the safe side.

Reading this board can be misleading. The only things that get posted here are bad things about broken motors, so you may think that all of them are junk.

Yup. I've got an '81 Johnson 90 and that thing is bullet proof. Previous owner had neglected it so at first I had some issues, but for the past 3 years it's been great.

Also, I know the drain holes you're seeing, and yes that's normal (and yes, I had the same concern).

I just had the same consern as I was running my 1986 VRO 70hp that I just bought today on a hose and I think and maybe someone will tell me if I'm correct I have a hole in the front( toward the bow of the boat ) have a hole that was running water out. Is that a weep hole? or I be worried?
