I have a weight question about a 87 century 4500 cuddy cabin with a 454. I weighed my boat and it is 6700 lbs with trailer. Can anybody help me with how to get he dry weight of this boat? Someone told me 4200 lbs + 1000 lbs for a trailer and 500 lbs for 70 gallons of gas = 5700. Where is the other 1000 lbs?

Thanks

well honestly dry weight doesn't matter.... what matters is actual weight..... go launch the boat and weigh the trailer... subtract the two numbers and you have the weight of the boat... assuming that you had the correct dry weight and you need to find the 1000 lbs, then.......

maybe your trailer weighs more than 1000 lbs

also:

waterlogged foam or stringers
Batteries
head
a/c
generator
inverter
water tank
gear
lights
stereo
aftermarket accessories like...
swim platform
ladder
seats
electronics

I agree with smoke, the weight you got is the one that counts. And manufacturers published "dry weights" are a joke. Most are so inaccurate that it's just a number they make up, I swear!

The only way to accurately know your boat's current weight is to weigh the trailer by itself. Then check what smoke listed.

x3, you have the more important weight, knowing what it weighs on the trailer. How large is the boat? I have heard of a Century 4500, but I'm unsure on the length/beam. Also 1000 lbs sounds light for a trailer to me.

As I posted in the other thread: Roughly 4000 lbs, however you need to take into consideration, you have the Big Block, which is going to be heavier then the other two optional motors. Then there is the massive 75 gallon fuel cell, and of coarse the water holding tank in the bow. 6500 lbs on a trailer....I wouldn't contest that. 6500 lbs - trailer weight of 1050 lbs (alum. I beam) = 5450 lbs - 75 gallons of fuel 450 lbs = 5000 lbs - 300 lbs of holding tank water = 4700 lbs ...your now missing roughly 700 to 1000 lbs. Then you can take into account what you have on for gear, batteries and all of the other mentioned items above as well.

Keep in mind alot of folks don't know how to weigh a trailer. How exactly did he weigh it; a simple deduction of what he thinks his truck weighs then leaving him with "x" amount of weight to account for the trailer....not at all accurate unless he rolled over the scale first with just his truck.

Do us a favor and post some pictures of your boat! What are you asking for it?

OK - mystery solved. (I forgot how to get back to this forum!). Here is the answer for the weight. I had the plug off to drain it after the second to last trip. I pulled the plug this time and I can only guess that it was +-50-60 gallons of water. Then I was fixing the wiring problems and got the bildge pump to actually work. (I thought it was working and I thought the drain plug emptied all water!) It pumped so much water out....the guy was right - It was overweight (He had been burned before - and he was an engineer).

I sold the boat to someone else - Thanks for all your replies.

60 Gallons of water in the boat? Good to get that out of there!
