This weight increase issue is really bugging me, being in the market for a 225 repower sometime soon.

My o/b is on a bracket and one of the disadvantages of the bracket is that the effect of even a little extra weight that far back is magnified....

I can understand why a 4-stroke is a lot heavier - it's got tons more parts and is a completely different beast, but my question is why are the new DFI 2-strokes (from all the manufacturers as far as I can see) also considerably heavier than their carbed counterparts? My 1993 carbed 225 Yam weighs only 400 lbs - looking at current DFI engines in the 200-250 hp range, no one comes close to that weight? Why does pitching 3 carbs and putting in a DFI pump net gain 75-100 lbs? Is there something else different in DFI engines compared to carbs? Do the blocks need to be heftier?
