I had a 1966 100 horsepower Mercury on my boat. I am now getting around to replacing it, and want to make sure the motor I get is about the same weight or less. I am more concerned about weight more then horsepower. But I do not remember how much that old Merc weighed. Nor can I find any info on the internet. I'm thinking it was around 350 pounds. Does that sound about right? I have a 17 foot Glasspar. Anyone have an idea?
Thank you,

Re: Weight of motor

A SWAG says about 225# to 265#. I can't imagine it being more than that. Just remember when you're looking, newer motors weigh more...sometimes a lot more. Can you tip it up on a bath scale? Just a thought. I also found this:

Restored Mercury 1000 Outboard Engine fully crated

Description: Restored 100hp Mercury outboard Motor

Length: 6 ft 7 in.
Width: 3 ft 3 in.
Height: 3 ft 3 in.
Weight: 331 lbs

I am thinking it includes the weight of the crate, etc.

Hope this helps.

Re: Weight of motor

It helps a lot. Thanks for the reply. I had a 4 and a 8 in my thoughts and was thinking it was 348lbs. I don't have the motor anymore, but the bathroom scale is a good idea. My boat has two built in 10 gallon fuel tanks in the back with jumper seats on top of them, along with my kicker motor, that is one reason I am also a little concerned or worried about weight. I was looking at a 1998 70 horse 4 stroke Johnson which I found out weighs in around 328 lbs. And a 1994 2 stroke oil injected 85 horse suzuki which comes in around 270 lbs. I think I know why I was hoping the old merc weighed 350. :) Thanks again for your reply.
