could someone please help me I am thinking of buying a new motor for my 15 foot polarkraft I currently have a Johnson 115 two stroke I believe it is a 78 the model number is 115 ET L780 and the seriel number is J5012673.
My boat handles this motor just fine so i would like to know how much this motor weighs so i can compare new motors. I can not read the plate on my boat but the title says it is a 1978 but it does not say the maximum hp rating either. Please help if anyone can with either the rating for my boat or the weight of my current motor  i really do not want to have to weigh this motor because i do know that it is heave but that is all i know  thankyou

Re: Weight of Motor

About 262lbs.This depends on the model. A long shaft may be a little more. There not as heavy as they look. This info is from an OMC factory publication.

Re: Weight of Motor

Using the specs. from the NADA web site for outboard motors, it lists the 78 Johnson ETL as 315 lbs. dry weight. Hope this helps.

Re: Weight of Motor

If your Polar Kraft is the 15' model with a 60" transom the following data would apply:

The USCG formula for a 15' boat with 60" transom less than 20" high suggests a maximum 35hp motor. The Johnson 30 HP 2 stroke weighs 117 lbs. and should provide ample power for your boat.

Not to raise undue concern but, if you are presently running a 115 hp motor on a 15' boat you would be far in excess of the Coast Guard maximum and potentially subject to exposure of liability in the event of a mishap. It would appear that replacement with a 'right-sized' power plant is very much in order.
