Any body happen to know the approximate weight of a 1979 ChrisCraft Scorpion 168?
A friend of mine has a line on one, but, needs to know if he can safely tow it with his Highlander.

TIA

Re: Weight of Scorpion 168 ?

According to NADA, they didn't make a 168 Scorpion until 1983.

17'
Model Name/Description: 168BR SCORPION
Boat Type: Stern Drive Power Boat
Hull Material: Fiberglass
Beam: 6' 9"
Engine: 1
140 HP
Gasoline
Net Weight: 2,050

Then add weight of trailer, batteries, fuel, and gear.

Should end up between 2500 and 3000#, depending on how much stuff he packs in there.

Yeah,about what I figured .
Going to be fairly close to the rated towing capacity.
Ok for a local ramp, but nothing I'd be comfortable going any distance with.

Personally, the deal sounds a little sketchy to me.
The question of the actual year of manufacture may just be a mistake,or,maybe not.

The seller told him the inboard "only needs a tune-up". ;)
My buddy, who knows very little about boats, never looked at the motor,or,in the bilge.
He only looked at the hull, and, the interior, which he said looked fine.

I told him not to even spend a dime on it without a thourough inspection,AND,a test drive.
Just to easy to get suckered in to a nightmare if you don't know what you are dealing with.
