Weight of SS Props

I'm considering a SS for my 2005 VP 4.3GXi/SX. But I'm amazed at how much they weigh as compared to their aluminum counterparts. And I clearly recall the clunking noises as Yamahas and Johnsons were fowarding and reversing their ss props as they entered their slips at the marina last season. The SX drive advertises cone gears for smoother shifting. But does anyone have any negative experiences with shafts/bearings/seals, when a 14lb ss prop is hanging off the lower unit (OB or I/O) vs a 7-8 lb aluminum?

Re: Weight of SS Props

I have a SS prop on my VP 4.3GL/SX 2001. No problems at all shifting no huge clunk. Shifts really easily.

Re: Weight of SS Props

the only drives I've ever heard not liking SS prop is the electric shift OMC's 1964-1977 - the weight can break the clutch springs if idle set too high
