before i get yelled at, i know this is the wrong forum for my model. i have posted this question in the chrysler section, but nobody seems to know. the people following this forum seem to be more knowledgable and thought i would give it a shot here.

once in a while, my chrysler outboard will not start. the starter spins the flywheel, but the motor will not fire. if i run a wire from the positive terminal on the battery to the positive terminal on the coil, there is a small spark and then the motor will fire right up as soon as you touch the key. 95% of the time, this is never a problem. but occasonally this happens and the only way to get the engine to fire is to run that wire. any ideas about what to do?

Re: weird problem

Check all your connections...from the ignition switch to the coil. Sounds like a bad connection. When you directly connect the battery to the coil, it sparks and that's probably temporarily fixing the corroded connection.

Remove and clean all terminals. I'll bet that solves your problem permanently.

But you're right, and this will probably get moved back to the Chrysler forum.

Re: weird problem

ok, connections to the coil are good. problem still exists. could this be a bad coil? or could there be some other connection before the coil that is causing this?

Re: weird problem

Could be a bad coil. Could also be any connection in the line from the battery to the switch to the coil. Check 'em all. Could even be the ignition switch itself.
