Hello:

I have been looking for a new boat around 20' and I came across a 1985 Welcraft V-20 Step Lift Cuddy. Any input? Good, bad, pros, cons? Any years that are better than others? Do any of you own or owned one? Let me know!

Thanks

Rob

very popular and well-respected boat on the coast. holds value and holds up condition-wise. If it's a 1985 motor, budget to repower, but see what you can get out of it. With a wellcraft unless it's been stored full or rain water, the motor will be your soft spot

1984 26 aft cab repowerd with 1996 7.4mercBravoIII----solid boat.
V-20 Step lift is a good one provided it is solid.

Re: Welcraft V-20 Step Lift

If its an outboard check the transom very thoroughly. Wellcraft did a poor job sealing the transom with just an aluminum cap over unsealed plywood. The caps often leaked and the transoms got soaked. I rebuilt the transom on my 78 v20 for that reason. I'm not sure if they still did it that way in 85 but definitely check the transom and stringers carefully. They are great riding boats and as a bonus there is a great site wellcraftv20.com for support.

I got a 1989 V-20 well craft cuddy cabin..good boat ..it has got a 89 200 Johnson on the back..runs like a banshee..I would put it up against any brand new motor.
